Sussex jaunt

You'll have to forgive the 'photo heavy' blog post this week.  I returned home from Petworth, Sussex, too shattered last night to write my usual standard.  But if you've seen my Instagram, you'll know I spent the weekend eating cake, charging round with Knights at a medieval joust and walking round the Petworth estate.  The most fun you can have in one weekend and I couldn't not share.

My friend Harry had invited a host of friends down for the weekend and requested one of my cakes.  I've finally made peace with my oven since I discovered Delia's all in one sponge recipe.  This triple stacked affair was smothered in lashings of raspberry curd and cream.  And there was plenty of dog walking round The Petworth estate which looked completely different by sunset and midday.  More Savanna than Sussex in the evening light.

One of my best friends Clare Edmondson, sings in a band called The Medieval Babes who were performing at the Loxwood Joust on Sunday.  So we headed down there for falconry, jousting, a lot of swords and flower head dresses.  I felt underdressed as we chatted to those who'd be camping, eating and reenacting a medieval life! Is it reenactment or LARP'ing ( Live action role play) I'm not sure?  But the glorious tents caught my eye, the majestic colours, the scalloped edging, the flags and bunting.
