I thought it would be nice to take 5 mins out of the heady pace of Christmas to talk about my festive collaboration with Interior designer Rococo Davis of Rococo London Interiors & Furnishings.
Back in the Autumn, Rococo commissioned me to create a bespoke Christmas card illustration. We talked about her passion for printing beautiful cards, the act of handwriting them and posting them off. A tradition fast becoming a rarity in the digital age.
I sketched up some initial ideas and we settled on a Christmas Georgian door, both of us sharing a love for the West Country. We kept the colour scheme simple in black ink with flashes of vintage green and red. Christmas stars cascade over a classic Bath stone as Rococo’s beloved cocker spaniel Edie sits patiently by the front door. Not forgetting the William Morris ‘willow bough’ style wreath hanging on the door. Morris being another favourite inspiration.
I love Rococo’s ethos of ‘homes not houses,’ and her bespoke, one of a kind Christmas card embodies her style beautifully. Something to cherish on the mantelpiece, read with a mince pie and keep for next year. Do send me a picture, if you were a lucky recipient!
