  • Did you enjoy the snow?  I could stay up all night watching it fall from the sky, it is totally bewitching.  My weekend to Bath got cancelled as all my friends were snowed in, but I relished the chance to potter at home, bake a cake, re arrange my shelves, muse on how much I love my flat and all the beautiful things inside it.  Until, I discovered a gas leak emanating from my sitting room fireplace.   Gas Man Den ( yes really) shut all the fun down, no heating, hot water or cooking facilities.  Did the Lemon sugar crust loaf cake from the my new Diana Henry cookbook have words with  Gas Man Den as it came out just as he arrived.  The horror set in, I made a hot water bottle, cup of earl grey and lasted as long as I could.  Luckily my friend Clare came to the rescue and offered me her spare room for the night.   I trudged over to Warwick Avenue in my wellies as the snow was deep and as I arrived in the tube I was greeted by this beautiful original information booth at platform level.  The clock casing is reminiscent of  Sir John Soames' work and I fell in love with it's simple Edwardian elegance.  A functional design with just the right amount of decoration which you wouldn't find on the new platforms of Kings Cross.

  • The light was quickly fading when I surfaced in time to take this photo of a Cabman's shelter.

  • In any case, it was all Dyptique candles and Daylesford Organic spaghetti bolognese round at Clare's that evening.  Better than any boutique hotel I know!  But the view into her square was mesmerising, very Peter Pan and Wendy!
